Communications Manager


Title: Communications Manager Reports

To: Director of Marketing

SUMMARY: The Communications Manager position supports the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission’s mission by developing and implementing organizational and event specific communication plans

o Assist with the overall development and execution of organizational and event specific communication

o Assist with the management of the GCSC Public Affairs Committee
o Direct and manage overall GCSC public and media relations efforts – including organizational and

event-based communications

  •   Write and distribute press materials
  •   Create, develop and manage relationships with local, regional and national media contacts and


  •   Organize and execute Press Conferences
  •   Maintain and log press clippings

o Serve as the organizations lead website editor and developer

  •   Manage and create content for the organization and its owned and affiliated events.
  •   Serve as the organization’s primary contact with external agencies to manage website

    structural and technological updates.

o Manage all organizational and event-specific social media accounts

 Utilize social media software to create and track campaigns
o Manage and execute organizational and event-specific e-mail marketing campaigns
o Coordinate the preparation of publications (Annual report, event programs etc.)
o Write, prepare, and/or review general content that will be published to external audiences
o Coordinate all photography and videography needs
o Assist with activation of media and communication elements of sponsorship packages
o Coordinate and assist with the marketing activities which may include advertising, direct mailing,

printing, and events.
o Assist in the preparation of organizational presentations and proposals o Attend and work all GCSC events

Position Requirements:

o Above average written and verbal communications skills
o Ability to compose letters, news releases, website material, award applications, newsletter articles

and other written materials
o Must be able to present information publicly, conduct phone interviews, speak professionally with

reporters and respond to questions from managers, clients, media and the general public o Must know the Associated Press style of copywriting


o At least 2 years of experience in a related field including direct work with media and an undergraduate degree in a communications related field


o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

o Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

o Must be flexible and resourceful OTHER REQUIREMENTS
